    Back story..
2 weeks ago I done a 30 gallon WC..did my testing, made sure all was stable and left the house for a couple days...to relax.;D
    When I returned...
I entered the "Man Cave", and I noticed something large and white in my tank, so I proceeded to inspect...as I stepped closer, I became aware of the squish squish noise of a soaked carpet..not good....heart rate has incresed considerably by now.:-/..closer I go...the white thing is my once gorgeous birds nest..now well on its way to being a "coral skeleton" ...this is now consuming my mind to the point where, if I recall, I thought I would pass out..really.
..opened the doors to the sump, and it is FULL and expelling out into the room...turn water off....study.....waalaa..it seems as though when I was refilling the sump, I had inadvertantly allowed the float to be pressed against the inside wall by the water instead of assurring it was "floating" ...my bad.
..stabalized water levels and did all my paramater testing...NOT good...first and formost my SG was 1.011...you can only imagine what the rest of my readings were about..:(
...first thing I did was stabilize salt...2 points a day until corrected...then I began upping the Mag..Alk..PH until good..during this time I removed dead "stuff":p..I write this now, because it is back to normal, and so am I ::)....I am experiencing a minor cycle..but not a worry. The fish were ok..but I lost a bunch of snails..all the pep shrimp, 1 cleaner...about 3/4 of my Zoas, many polyps...my Xneia(that was weird)...birds nest, all my Monti, about a dozen frags I had going...about 50 % of my Yellow star polops(had a blanket of 200 or more on my overflow.)..and my candy canes look a bit worse for wear...also my GSP are just starting to come back....
So...there ya have it...life can throw ya curve balls....but you must'nt panic...do what you can do in an orderly and functionary manner..it is what it is...just do your best and at the end of the day...count your "winnings" ;D
    btw..it was a nightmare...just say'n LOL ; )

At the 1st aquarium shop I worked at I told the new guy to add saltwater to the sump before we left for the night because it was a bit low, He said he knew which 1500 gallon container was R/O and which was saltwater and I trusted he wasnt a total tard and never checked...

Low and behold I came in the next morning to a store with 2 inches of water on the floor and an ENTIRE 6000 gallon fish system full of dead fish!!

He had put the hose for the R/O in the sump and never shut it off when we left and it dumped the entire 1500 gallons of R/O into the system along with an additional 800-1000 gallons of R/O that the unit had made overnight since it was a giant commercial R/O unit that did something crazy like 2500 gallons a day or some absurd number
Needless to say we canned him for being so stupid and doing something like that

That's terrible LG,sorry bout the corals, especially that monster BN,what a shame, but you're absolutely right -stuff happens in this hobby and ya gotta roll with it.Glad you got er under control buddy and sorry for the losses :(.

And for proof that things happen (especially in this hobby),I just started filling my 65 for it's test run 2 days ago,got the sump filled, the overflow filled and around 5" of water in the DT and the silicone let loose somewhere (couldn't find it) and am now in the middle of a full tank reseal job .the tank was full when I bought it,so just glad I caught it now instead of after it was up and running.Maybe I caused it when cleaning it up?Idk,but it doesn't suck any less.

Murphy's Law bit us both bro ;)

Very sorry for what you lost LG. Looking on the bright side (as I am sure you are doing), it was not a complete loss. Glad the fish made it through!

Ugh that must have been scary when you realized the carpet was wet.
Sorry for your losses but also glad that some survived.

    How is your float mounted?

its on a mount I built instead of drilling..actually it is a great set up..I just made a stand off rod and glued it to the inside...it cannot do this again..fail safe after the fact : / ...its all my fault...got too complacent..I know better.

That sucks.........My uncle had a complete blowout he had to pretty much rebuild that section of the house. Look into Lifeguard by Digital Aquatics, I think it is the cheapest of it's kind......
