    I have 2 cannister filters running in my discus tank. In each one I have 3 sponges. Once a month, I take the bottom sponge out & wash it in the discarded water & move it to the top. That's it. The next month is a repeat with a different sponge. How does that sound ?

    preferrably just clean all the sponges from the same canister and alternate between the canisters for the schedule

    +1 to Smiley. However, on my freshwater tank I run a canister filter and I only change the filter media every few months and my parameters are always perfect. I dont do water changes that often either.
