I am going to get a RO/Di unit soon as I get other tank things straight. For the mean time I went to a yard sale and picked up a Sears Kenmore Water Purifier. Here is what it does....
1 As the water temparature rises the light gasses boil off and are discharged through the vent....

2Tap water is heated to 212 F killing bacteria in the water....

3This heat creates steam, which rises, leaving behind chemical and other impurities....

4 The stainless steel condensor cools the steam turning it back into water...

5Purified water then passes through a carbon filter in the spout to polish the water and help eliminate traces of odor...

6 Purified water is collected in a storage bottle...

7Impurities are left behind in the bottom of the stainless steel tank....

Is this okay to use for water changes and is this distilled water?

nope, it may work but it's not worth the toss up risk imo.

if they are using copper tubing in the coils you know what that can do, kill all inverts and permanently bond with the glass in the tank rendering it useless as a marine reef setup in the future, copper is the agent orange of a tank with snails etc why risk it for there to be like one copper washer in the pump heads or something.

guess you could take your leachate in for testing, that'd wrap it all up.

there is copper lines in your house but you still use a rodi Unit correct. well unless it was built in the 2000 era but there is still copper just not as much. It is the same thing as a rodi unit it filters out by heat and evaporation then condensates back to one of the purest forms of water! best way is to test with a tds meter and go from there. But I still say it is safe. as long as it does as you described.
