ditching the crushed coral sand?

i am growing very tired of the crushed coral substrate in my tank i would love to have clean white sand.
so my question is there a way i can change out the cc for fine white sand?
should i just take out all the rocks and livestock put them in buckets and change it out or should i do it in parts you know like move some rock change out the sand move it back?

anyone ever done this?
help please... :-/

 

When I did this on my 55 gallon, a few years back, I just did it all at once. if your cc bed is fairly shallow, it's not providing all that much bio filtration anyway. (as long as you have plenty of lr in the tank) I just put every thing in rubbermaids and shopvac'd the cc out and put the sand bed in. took about 4 hours to complete.

i have about 1/2 inch to an inch so is that ok for just switching out?

and obviously use live sand

 

I never use live sand and this is why. This stuff sits on the shelf for god knows how long. There is bound to be some die off on this stuff and that makes for a ton of phosphates. I just don't like it. Like I said before. Your sand bed, unless it's a dsb, doesn't do a whole lot for bio filtration.

 

so just go with some good ol clean white dry sand

Have you done this yet Jakeh24? I've a 110 and did exchanged my crushed coral for sand. If you've not done it yet let me know and I'll explain how it went for me.
