yeah... it's a matter of view point... Folks like Amelia Earhart, Steve Fossett, Pheidipides (probably fiction though), soldiers, mountain climbers presumably would agree with me though.

Why did you climb that mountain? Because it is there. <- I can relate to that view point quite easily. I would imagine this record breaker could too.

But in the back of my head, I'm thinking if this diver didn't die, you wouldn't have mentioned this at all. Whether or not she died, the risk was same. What's the difference?

I see you stated this time 'record of meaningless' - and I do see your point on that. However, I was responding to something different that you said. Specifically about caring for something so much that you'd risk your life for it. As a father, husband, and citizen there are a great deal of things I care strongly enough for that I'd die for. Even if death was certain - unlike this divers chances.

We risk our lives every day by driving, eating, and simply living. I would much prefer to go out doing what I love then to die behind the wheel, or from a virus, etc.

Great video! It was amazing the way he descended down into the hole so graceful. And the camera work was great too, it was so clear and crisp.

Exactly. I love to free climb and prefer it over top rope or lead. If I died doing that and not working 5 days a week 9-5 I would be happy. I'd rather go on the mountains than hit by a drunk or shot by an idiot.

    Seano Hermano,
It isn't about bragging rights or some sort of self-entertainment. I cannot describe the feeling of just completing a climb. You are literally on top of the world. Its a feeling of accomplishment and the joy of conquering something that many see unconquerable. I cannot completely describe the feeling. you have to live it.

    Two things...

1st: pain is temporary, pride is forever!

2rd: Life is about quality not quanity. And when you get into something, so much that it takes over life. You want to be the best, and push your body and mind to the limit. Sometimes you go to far, and sometimes you dont. But you cant live life worrying about what ifs. IMO

OK, I exaggerated a bit. I was just trying to get my point across. I'm not certain on what my view on this is, but I'm sort of in between now I guess. I mean, I'm not saying "don't have fun, don't do what you like". Believe me, if I got the chance to scuba in the Great Barrier Reef, I would. Just that there are consequences, both good and bad that go along with that.
