I have owned an freshwater aquarium for over 20 yrs.Nothing special just add fish and watch them grow. My first tank was a 10 gal then a 20 gal now I am wanting to go for a 72 gal. Only because my incandescent sharks (2) have out grown the 20 gal tank. So my question is: Are "Reef Ready" tanks the way to go if you have a budget set for $1000.00 CDN. Can you tell me the pro's and con's of this equipment. Does it make the tank easier to clean? And how often do you clean a tank of this size if you have 6-8 medium size fish. My sharks are approx 8-10 inches in length.

RR tanks just have overflows that are predrilled for a sump. There are no other differences. It makes the plumbing easier for a marine tank with a sump. Most of the freshwater guys don't use a sump so it has limited benefit for you.

I don't want to upset you here but if your sharks are 8-10 inches I believe a 72 gal will be a little small for them.
As far as cleaning it makes little to no difference. Like any tank you will be doing much more cleaning as the tank cycles and based on how much water movement you have. Once your cycle has finished most people do about a 10-20 % water change monthly. Others like to do this weekley. I prefer a 20% once a month but more for my corals than fish. If your going FOWR which I am guessing you are if your water tests come back 0 across the board you could to smaller water changes.

Sorry I missed the entire freshwater part so the size of the tank may just be fine.
