DIY 3part Randy holmes...... need help

Hey guys, As im in india, i dont get stuff like downflakes and mag flakes. also i have been searching for measuring cups but i just couldnt find out that too.... its frustrating. all i get is lab grade products. I would like to mix Cal. Chloride in madeup salt water as the cal reads 360 so would like to bring it to 450 - 460 (just what randy holmes does). also as i had bought these cal and mag chl long back, they have turned into stones so is it ok to use them (as its just moisture and it will be anyways mixing in water)? i have a 1.5l bottle to make mag supplement and for cal. chlo. id like to mix in salt (would like to know howmany table spoon to raise from 360-460) . currently im using sodium carbonate in topup water which will be replaced by kalk (which will help in in daily cal).
Here are the products i have:


Cal. Chloride -500gms
Mag. Chl. - 500gms
Mag. Sul. - 400gms

What should i do?

 

be careful mixing the magnesium, it gets very hot when first mixed with water and gases come up. i learned this the hard way. i dont have these brands you have but im guessing they are all pretty much the same.

i recommend you mix it in glass, the mag gets that hot.

i use a glass measuring cup, it works well since it has the spot to pour the mixture into a container to store after the mag mixture cools . and its also thick and can take the heat the mag creates

 

or can i add mag chloride and sulphate in premixed saltwater?

 

can i mix them in a plastic bucket (it a whey protien bucket, i use it for mixing my saltwater)

 

im not sure i have always made the stock mixture to dose with. and never added it to pre mixed saltwater . here is what i use .. maybe their directions will help you a bit Brightwell Aquatics Magnesion-P - Dry Magnesium Supplement for Reef Aquaria 300g / 10.6oz

 

the mag mixture really gets very hot when you are mixing it to be a stock mixture. if you are not trying to create a stock mixture im guessing it wouldn't get as hot since its a small amount. but the powder still should be mixed with water before adding.
my thoughts are this, my stock mixture started to melt the spoon that was stirring it. if you mix a stock mixture in plastic, the plastic could leach some sort of chemical ? this is just my thoughts and i cant be sure if im correct on this.
i mainly wanted you to know to be careful mixing it. since like i said i found out the hard way.

hopefully someone else can chime in that is mixing that way you want to.

 

Lol, most people use dowflakes and stuff like that because it's too hard to obtain the lab grade stuff you have pictured above. The stuff you have is awesome, you will just most likely to dilute it down as per not to crash your tank.

Are you going to be dripping it via a doser? Or manual dosing?

I usually mix with a large wooden spoon. If using mag don't use a metal spoon to stir.

 

Manual but dono should i do weekly or monthly if not every day. Reading randy holmes articles, what he him self does is just adds mag chloride to his premixed salt water along with cal chloride. but he does 1% wc every day. thats not possible for me....
