The lighting system is nothing new in the reef comm. I decided to use it because I will upgrade in the near future to LEDs. The lights will hang independent from the hood. I want to be able to move them back out of the way to do maint. and still have light to see what I am doing.

I made a bracket to screw the lightss to out of 1/2'' plywood

I want to light to stay in and be reflected, so I will add a cover.

There will be an other cover to keep the back of the hood from leaking light when the drawer pulls are extended

As you can see I am able to remove the half hood an do mait. without dealing with the lights

this is just incredible. even if you don't build these yourself, you should document the process in extreme detail and sell the plans. you mentioned work was on and off; maybe your true calling is in designing aquariums.

If you guys keep this up I am going to have to go out and buy a bunch of new hats. The ones I have now barley fit my head as it is.
    Thanks for the encouraging replies.
I hope that others do use some of these ideas.
I believe these types of forums are for sharing info from past experiences. I have gotten most of these ideas from having built other aquarium systems. Some parts of them worked very well and other parts of them not so well. So it is easy to say that you really dont know what you want or what will work for you unless you have already had a tank up and running. Does that make sense?
As I have stated before It is OK to think outside of the box. Sure it may take more effort but at least you can say ITs MINE.
I would love to design and build aquariums for a living, but I am afraid I would starve. The logistics and liability would be near impossible to over come. I am not a spring chicken anymore. Time would not be in my favor.
    Thanks guys

Great work, man! I know you've heard(seen) it many times before me, but it's true. Your work looks awesome.

P.S. - I would die to have a shop like yours. :D

    Thanks cybe,
I feel that we all must set our goals high. But not at a height that you are not capable of obtaining. It is wise to sometimes work within your ability to make your goals attainable
The hacking part will never see a camera lens. lol
