Just run the line to a float valve. Set the float at the height you want the water and your off.

Personally, that's not something I'd EVER do.

You have hooked up a potentially endless supply of water to your tank. If anything goes wrong, good bye tank and good bye to whatever in your home that receives water damage.

Way too much potential for a HUGE mess.

    I agree with evolved.

Here is what I do. I have a float valve ( eshopps brand) with a line connected to a rubbermaid container in a shelf in the storage area next to the room the tank is on. I let gravity top off my tank.

Never had a failure and if I did it would only be in the amount of the rubbermaid.

Both are very correct......Always remember that the strongest force in nature is gravity, and the second strongest force is water....and I think a Black hole lands somewhere in between those two.....point is, water doesn't care about failure......it just goes.

Absolutely. Never thought of the negative potential. I actually use a jbj ago. With a bucket and pump inside. One float switch is in tank and other is in bucket. I use the mode that turns off pump in bucket when water is low. Still a potential for SG drop but limited flooding. I sometimes use the other mode as a manual switch so when I see the red light I flip the switch.. so... how do people run their to units directly to sump.

+2, I use a JB ATO and the potential for disaster is far less than an active water line.

Why you need to be careful(sorry LG:()

not an exact representation, but an idea of what can happen if this goes wrong
