OK so I'm about to be upgrading to some BoostLED PAR30's pretty soon. Going to put 3 over my 29 and 2 over my 10. I really like the lights but have been scratching my head about how the heck I would be able to mount them. I'm not a big fan of see the lights hanging down or clamp on mounts and such. So I found a way to DIY a mount that I think anyone could do.

Everything you need is at your local Lowes (maybe Home Depot too but I went to Lowes).

Buy a 4' section of track lighting. Buy as many track light heads as you'll need. Buy a plug and cord kit for as many lighting systems you want to make.

The track lighting section can be cut with a simple hacksaw and instructions on doing so are included.

So just cut the section to the length you want, touch up the end with a sharpie marker (the end cap should hide most of the cut). Plug the lights into the track at the spacing you need. Plug the plug and cord kit into the grounded end of the track. (if the lights don't come on...plug it into the other side LOL) Turn the switch on and done.

I'll be making a box style canopy that mounts to the wall to hide the bulbs.

As for heat issues I'll be looking into getting some small fans to put in the canopy, but I'm not even sure that will be needed it the top of the canopy is open.

Here's a pic of everything you need. Make sure you buy all the same brand so as to avoid any compatibility issues. Each item cost $10.

Lastly...this isn't totally an original idea. I'm pretty sure this is how Mr Ocean made his setup for his 30g build. I'm just modifying it to fit the look I want, still wanted to give credit where it's due.

Coastie Reefer, yes this is how my set up is done (thanks for the credit/plug!). Can't wait to see how you incorporate these into a canopy, should look great!

What is the max bulbs that can fit onto one track? Either by size reasons or electric reasons.

LOL.. Hmmm this design looks a lot similar to mine sir Oct, 2010.. LOL... ;) Though, I did a lot of custom work..

Just one thing though, not sure if I would place track lighting into a canopy. The copper contacts are exposed in the tracking and being that close to the saltwater. You are running a high risk of copper corrosion leeching into your tank, an electrical shock, or even a fire. It is not designed to be near water.

That's one of the primary reasons that I have mine on drops, plus I wanted the ability of moving my height as needed and easy for maintenance.

Anyway to have the bulbs run separately? I haven't been able to find a fix for it yet.

With track lighting no.. That's the main reason for track lighting, having the ability to using more than one lighting fixture on one power source.. What are you trying to do?
