I am embarking on making my own bubble trap. I am making a miniature one and kinda have an idea of how to make it. Is there a certain size I should make this? I don't have a sump so I'm thinking about one that goes from the skimmer out supply and hooks onto it (hot glue? superglue?) and makes like a not steep waterfall into the tank. Do you think this will suffice? The POS Seaclone works ok, but, when I have it set to where it works, it makes HUGE amounts of bubbles. I'll post a pic of it when I get it done, if it works..... Any suggestions?? Maybe one that hangs on the back of the tank?

Personally no matter how big or small of a tank you should go with a sump. This way you can get all that stuff out of the tank and not worry about baffles or bubbles. I dont totally understand what your trying to do but why dont you take the skimmer output into PVC and run it into your tank, you could add some current this way. If you give pics/drawings, I could comment. Good Idea though.

I'm trying to have keep from having to do a sump.... total lack of knowledge about them, it's very confusing to me and trying to get what I need with little or no money(DIY), with parts, pieces or stuff I already have so I can put together, myself. Scared too that the sump will end up costing huge amounts of money, like the tank has already. Don't get me wrong, I love my tank and all it's inhabitants, but after 6 years of having it and putting an untold amount of money into it already, I'm not real sure how much more I want to invest. I can invest my time, mechanical ability, problem solving skills and my will, to fix it the way it will work the best and most efficient, with the least amount of $$ used..........know what I mean?? There's got to be a less expensive way to do this!

I'm not sure what you mean by this? On my existing skimmer or the bubble trap I'm trying to make?

WOOO HOOOO!! The bubble trap is done and working quite nicely. The total cost was $2.73(with tax). My PS is finally working the way it should! Nice, dry, yukky foam,(ignore the water gunk in the skimmer cup, it was there already) with a minute amount of bubbles escaping into the tank. Now let's see if it holds up after 24 hours LOL

yes I may have hairbrained ideas....but sometimes they actually work!
