I drilled mine, took some plumbers putty and made a ring for a dam to hold water as I cut my hole. duck tape the underside of the plug so it wont fall and go slow making sure the bit stays cool the whole time.

I got my bit from Glass-Holes and it was pretty easy. I used a corded drill, just because it can get me really high rpm's, no clutch though. Just laid the drill on to of the glass and held down the trigger like I was spraying Nazi Zombies with an MP40 in Black Ops, and let the weight of the drill do the work. All I really did was hold the drill vertically.

LMAO!! :laugh6::laugh6: I find it hilarious that you incorporated Black Ops Zombies into this thread. Karma to you for the laugh!

I will cry with you if it doesn't go well, but I have every confidence that it will. These guys know what they're talking about.

Thanks guys i ordered everything im going to drill it, i dont know what i was thinking i can handle it, i know my tools so this has to be easy i just cant settle for the 10 bucks a whole and like someone stated the trouble of louding the thing in my truck

hey now that we are on the subject, what do you guys think, coast to coast overflow or leave a few inches on the end for a return bulkhead ?? i think for the look the coast to coast would be more pleasing right ??

Definitely coast to coast. I'm on my phone or I would link my build. Its in the "I made this" forum, and its titled DIY 65 gallon build, on first page. I did a coast to coast, but ran my returns right through the overflow box. Took 2 extra bulkheads but looks nicer I think.

i broke my first tank (40b) trying this, but after my second attempt it was easy. just practice on like a 10 gallon or anything glass. as everyones says.... the trick is to GO SLOW, dont press down on the drilltoo much (expesially when your getting closer to the end) and also DONT rotate. by this i mean rotate the drill in a circle to widen the hole (rotate + too much pressure = broken tank) but for a referance it took me about 1 hour to drill 2 holes with around 3 5min brakes

Spend the 25 bucks on a wolfcraft 4525 drill guide...i takes the pressure out of the equation, you just adjust the spring pressure and let the weight of the drill do the work...drilled 40+ holes for mself and friends using one of these, its really worth it. You can get at most ardware stores, or ebay

insanespain are those 1" bulkheads for the outflow ?? really like the setup, cleaner than running the pipes over the overflow box

Yes they are, but I have the bushed to 3/4 on the back side and all my return piping is 3/4. The only reason I used 1 inch bulkheads is so that I only had to buy one size of drill bit.

yeah i was thinking the same thing, bush the 1" inch and get 3/4 loc line but my other issue is thinking of drilling 2 more holes back there and buying 4 more bulkheads i dont know yet im thinking about maybe just running the lines over the overflow even though your is cleaner looking
