For my 48"l x 23"d x 24"h tank I'm planning on getting the 90 LED kit with 3 annodized black 7.1" x 15.8" heatsinks and the 80 degree optics...do you think this will be enough?
I'd like to have a mixed reef and a clam or two (on the sandbed).

I might go with some 60 degree optics instead to improve PAR.

Thanks! Yea, he's a little over a year and still has a lot of puppy left in him. I just went home on my lunch break to let him run around and I noticed the cable line is now exposed. Ah, the hidden costs of animals :D

And my package delivery time just shot forward two days and should be delivered withing the next 1-2 hours, although no one will be there so I'll probably have to pick it up tonight.

Ok got mine all done. Which I can't believe I got it to work with no problems. I'm definitely not a diy guy. Right now it's about 3.5 inches away from surface and on 2x4 wood lol. Gotta do it another way later. Hopefully that close won't hurt anything. It covers my 24 gal cube evenly no dark corner. Great LEDs so far. As for pics. Everything is blue in my camara lol

I got my package as expected but I'm on vacation in NYC so only had time to do a little bit of work. I'll take pictures and start a thread in a week when I get back.

I will say everything was packaged nicely and he included 2 extra LEDs (I ordered the 72 kit), which is good because 1 has already been *temporarily misplaced*.

looking at the spe sheets and comparing it with cree's, i think you need 4 bridgelux against 1 cree, especially the XPG series.

dont get the cheap drivers, a friend of mine have one and it wont dim, it either goes to very bright or very dim, not linear dimming.

Interesting thread. I am considering making three 36 LEd pendants for my 180. it is 6' long and 24 deep and 24 wide. would this be enough light for SPS? I can also easily supplement with t-5's as they are already mounted. Just looking to replace the Halides.

What do you mean, "spe sheets"? And I highly doubt 1 cree is equal to 4 bridgelux...

As for dimming, hopefully I can finish one of my 18 bulb modules tonight and will let you know. But it has standard potentiometers with about 300 degrees of control, so I also doubt this is true, but I'll post some pics soon I hope.

i mean to say "spec sheet".

try this, go with your 18 bulb and find someone local to you and compare your 18bulb brigdgelux to an 18 bubl cree.

FWIW, i've done comparisons on both the bridgelux and the cree, using a 48 bulb bridgelux and 48 bulb cree, the bridgelux cant hold a candle to cree, par-wise. this is powering the cree at 800mA and 750mA for the blues, with [plenty mroe to spare since the whites can run at 1500mA.
the chinese driver only runs at 680 mA, and the bridgelux are only capable of 700mA.
