I currently run metal halides over my 125. With the blazing heat and rising electric bills I am giving LED's some serious thought. I have SPS, LPS, and softies in my tank along with a coralline algae explosion. I want to keep my current colors, coral growth, and algae growth. I want to DIY a LED setup that will reduce the HEAT and electric bill. Where do I start? As I understand, Cree is the way to go. How many lights do I need to have the current lighting I have now? Thank you all!

    :D

    Then ask more questions.

Dimensions of your tank (standard 125)?

If you do your research and do it right, not only are you gonna keep your current colors and growth, but you are going to make it better times 10 ;D

You may want to post your current MH setup so the LED guys can get a better feel for what you have already. Evolved's thread is a must read.

I moved this to the LED board. PLEASE post on the right boards. I am in the process of moving 34,000 threads to appropriate boards and I am a little sensitive to this right now. :) Thanks

Im considering the same thing. My MH has served me well but the heat and bulb changes are crazy expensive.
