I am looking to add some accent LED strips to my existing 20" odyssea t5HO fixture. I have no major complaints about the fixture as it is growing my zoas, shrooms and softies like a boss but these are the 3 things i would like to achieve:

    1) more shimmer
    2) more blue
    3) a little added PAR to increase the range of corals I can grow

So I was thinking of doing a DIY LED strip about 16" long with blue LED's in the hopes that this will accomplish what i want. A google search leads to a deluge of links and sifting through them is a little daunting, especially since alot of them seem to be ~ 2-3 years old and dedicated to building larger units.

-Is a 4-5 led unit capable of achieving what I want?
-Does anyone know of any DIY threads on this site or anywhere else that has done this?
-Are there any reef ready units that would be good as well? I see tons of moonlight LED strips but nothing that will increase the PAR significantly.

    thanks!

You can use deck railing as a heatsink.
