If your tank is glass, then I would highly suggest going this route BeanAnimal's Bar and Grill - Silent and Fail-Safe Overflow System and building a glass overflow box yourself. A coast to coast overflow box is the most efficient, plus you can have your local glass shop cut the 2 pieces of glass for next to nothing, and silicone them in yourself. I would recommend the Bean Animal 3 standpipe system over two 1" drains ANY day.

Check out my build thread and look at how I did my overflow and returns. It was super easy and it works flawlessly without any risk of a flood, its also silent.

Where would you drill the return at? how will the setup look? Can you please post some pics of the setup? Because I am planning to do the same setup.. 2 glass-hole overflow on each side of the tank.. but I confuse to where I should do the return. Thank ...

Drill it and make your own overflow boxes, its not hard but patients is needed. a hardware store will cut the plexi for you, then just glue the pieces together, I used silicone to adhere it to the back wall.
Keep in mind, the more area for the water to flow over the quieter the tank will be.
Theres a article on line somewhere telling you how to tell if it's temperd glass or not, my bottom is temperd but the sides are not. I know some years ago all glass companies were made to etch the edges of the glass to show it is temperd but don't count on that. Temperd can be drilled but it must go to a glass shop to have it done with presses and a glass company will not be responsable for any tank temperd or not.

Do you think it would be sufficient to run 2 of these on both ends of a tank? I've looked at this option before on my last tank, but ended up getting a 120 with built in. Also very nice build you got going. Can't wait to see more!

Are you talking about doing 2 seperate overflow boxes on each side of the tank, running from front to back? Instead of one across the whole back like mine? Thanks for the compliments also

Yes I would like to have 2 seperate oveflows. 1 on each side running front to back. It should work with the valves i would be able to control the amount of water going into the full siphon? I guess it wouldn't be a coast to coast. It would be a Canada to Mexico!

I would think it would be hard to tune, but I suppose it could be done. The downside would be having 6 drain pipes to get to your sump. I just think tuning it would be very difficult. IMHO it would look bad, since you would see the ends of the overflows while looking at the front of the tank. I would stick to just one overflow box, or if you MUST have 2 seperate boxes of some kind, I would tie them together with a 1 inch pipe. That way you would only need to do one bean animal setup. Just my 2 cents

This is one of a few designs I have been researching. It consist of 1 overflow with 2 - 1 inch drains and 2 - 3/4 inch returns on each side. Good luck and post some pics if you have any of your progress.
