Currently I have a HOB overflow that handles about 600gph. I'm looking for something that can handle 800 gph for a little overkill cuz I have to dial back my pump right now. Can I modify the overflow? Or does anyone have a better DIY plan that can handle this much volume.(Without drilling the tank) I saw this on youtube

What size tank? If you start moving water through the sump/fuge too quickly, neither the fuge or skimmer will be able to effectively process the water. Ideal turnover rate should be 5X

Its a 55 gallon and I have about 11x turnover at full blast. 10x with it dialed back. I thought ten times was the ideal amount for a reef tank?

What you have from the overflow is good, make the rest of the turnover rate up with powerheads, maxijet mods korallias or similar.

I have 25x turnover in my 90g, and I still have a spot once in a while that gets a little too little flow, helping some red slime to grow.

Personally I would shoot for 30x or so turnover total. That also helps your fish not get fat, and stay in shape;)

That's about what you want going through your sump/fuge. You want to shoot for 50x or so with total circulation in the tank.
