this is my first tank im doing plumbing for :)

    tank: 130 gal
pump: Pentair Aquatics Quiet One 9000 Water Pump
    Specifications:
    Input: 1.5"
    Output: 1.5"
    0' Head: 2300GPH
    6' Head: 1850GPH

I'll be using 1" pvc for the return, how big do i need to make the drain, what would be a good size pipe to use?

Are you going to have 1 overflow or 2? I have a 1 1/4in and a 1in overflow on my 100 gal with a 40gal sump. I would say go for two overflows cause that pump is pretty strong. One 1 1/4in overflow couldnt handle my 1000GPH pump on my old 40gal. It also depends on the length of the return line and if you are going to restrict it with a ball valve. I have a 6 feet flexible tubing as a return that splits into two outputs and my two overflows are doing great.

i hadn't considered restricting the return line i was going to put a gate valve on the drain, my tank is currently drilled with a 2" hole for a drain and a 1 3/4" for a back up drain which will sit above the water incase the main one gets clogged. maybe if i go with a 2"bulkhead which will mean ill need to enlarge the hole to 3"s, then run 1 3/4" pipe down.
