Is that your drain or return?

That's the drain. There's a slot about 1/8" wide along the top the length of the pipe. It's quieter than a standard box type overflow, and it can't be clogged by snails. I'm making two more for my basement sump, and will have five of them running. I don't know why more people don't use it. It's super easy to make, cheap, and can't cause a flood like a siphon box.

I see, looks good. Though do keep in mind at any given time anything can clog what was never intended to be clogged. I have to clean the overflow box in my 90gal DT. Between coralline algae and bubble algae it starts to block the grate on the overflow box.

Plus you'll always get snails. Baby snails can get into the hard to reach places without notice.

Here's a better picture of the slot. These little snails crawl along it. If they get inside, it's no big deal, the tube is 1-1/2". On my DT, my baby Banggai's could get through the teeth in the overflow box. In the tank with the tube overflow, they were perfectly safe. I agree that nothing is 100%, but it would be difficult to clog the slot overflow. I've used them for over a year and have never needed to clean them. I have one on the FOWLR sump that handles the flow from a Dart with no problem.
