Well I was looking at this overflow for my 75g im goign to be putting together and this is the best bang for the bang since it comes with everything, still cheaper than piecing it all together and making the overflow my self. My question is they put no gasket between the glass and the wall of the overflow in the back plus they put the bulkheads on backwards. What do you guys think of this my plan was to order and then cut the back wall off and caulk it to the tank. Its a TX Holey Rocks overflow, heres a link, also its dual 1 inch overflow, im goign to run a mag9 for this new setup w/ dual returns on opposite sides of the tank

For the price, with glass hole saw included, nice kit.

As for modifying by removing the back, you could, but it is not really necessary. Looks like a great way to add an overflow to a tank.

i'm working on setting up my 75 also, and found "glass holes".com (take out the quotes and the space) - they have some nice overflows, sold the same way. can't remember the difference in price.

    looks like a good product.

cool then ill go ahead and order it and do a test run with it and see, i just thought since no gasket between the glass and box it would leak but i guess the gasket on the inside of the overflow prevents it from doign that.

I would go with the kit from Glass-Holes.com dope aquarium stuff. Might pay a bit more but these guys have been doing it for a lot longer than TX Holey. Their customer service is 2nd to none.
The nut on the bulkhead does go on the inside of the tank. I wouldn't cut the back off the overflow box. You then have to worry about how to attach the overflow to the tank. Silicone doesn't work all that well with acrylic.

anyone here know the "rules" on where you can drill holes for a glass tank? ie - how close to edges and how close to each other?

I would worry about drilling 2 holes that close together to handle that small box. The 1500 kit from glass-holes spaces them far enough apart to not be a problem.

never thought about that, I would say it looks ok since just using 1 inch, i would be more concerned if it was 1.5+ or on a smaller tank. I dont want to spend 100 on the glass holes overflow even though its great. Ugg now im thinking more and more, my brain is hurting!
