DIY recirculating skimmer

Yea let us know how that works. . . I have the same skimmer 65 model and would like to make it better. Has anyone ever put a larger gph pump on it or are you not suppose to put bigger pumps on??

 

you may be able to get away with a lil bigger pump , but it would prob overflow with anything bigger.

i now have my rio pump sucking almost no air and the control valve on the skimmer open all the way and just pushing mostly water, and my recirculation pump is doin most of the bubble making.

i am def getting a more consistent foam, but i did notice it may be a lil more turbulent in the body than i would like, so i may have to go back in and diffuse the flow from the maxi with something.

 

so this is what i got in the first 24 hrs. well for me and what i was used to i would have been lucky to get this much in a week. so for ME this was a huge improvement.but i am still buying a new skimmer when tax returns come lol;D



so take from it what you will cause stocking levels and tank setups and everything in between can vary your results.

 

just a lil update, skimmer is def warmed up and re coated with slimes. now i would say it skims that much in less than 24 hrs. and i tuned it to skim a bit darker. i would say that i have skimmed out more in the last week than i have in the past 2 months.

 

Wow! AWESOME. I was just googling the exact same mod but for my 125 version. One question, did your skimmer have an inner tube that surrounded the gray tube that put water in the skimmer? Mine does and i was wondering if you had any advice

 

Also what is the gph on the rio feed pump? Was it the same as the original pump the skimmer came with?

 

Are you using the stock impeller on the recirculating MJ?
Or did you mod it somehow? If so - how? Mesh mod?
