I didn't mean flow as in current. I meant would that throw off the return pump/ overflow ratio? (Would it cause the return pump to return water slower than the overflow takes it out? Or would the overflow stay at the same steady pace?)

Water in = water out. Your overflows are only going to throw as much water into the sump as your return pump throws out after you have your set level figured out.

    Awesome. Thanks Will.
Does anyone else see any flaws, or improvements I could make?

I had to add on to my sump/fuge when I did my tank swap from 72 to a 120. I had a small acrylic tank 12 x 14 built. I drilled two 1 3/4" holes for 1" bulk heads and tied my sump and new box together. I would T off the drain and feed the fuge and just let it overflow to the sump. Thats just me though.

Good luck and hope you can figure out what will work for you

    Awesome! Thank you.
Do you still have that set up? I'd like to see pics of it.

Hello. I am confused on over all size – but appears as if this will work.

Pumping up to the refugium than the water returns in a cascade effect? Is this correct? again, pending size you might be looking at a micro-bubble issue with the return pump. Also, I would suggest two baffles in the refugium – pump water to far left of your diagram, install a baffle so that the water draws to the bottom of fuge. Getting back to the fuge gravity return – might want to pipe that so that it returns to the right of the return pipe to ensure more “dirty” water feeds refugium. Plus, if it’s a gravity return it as in the picture you will suck bubbles into the refugium and perhaps burn out the pump – sorry, hard to tell dimensions from the picture.

I like bio-balls and not rubble, as long as they are not submersed.

Its a 5 gal tank for the fuge and a 15-20 gal sump (Not sure which as I haven't filled it to the brim)
The view of the tank is of the side rather than lengthwise, so I wasn't able to draw the intake and return as far apart as I want them.

As for the bubbles and piping, Im not quiet sure what you mean, but if you have patience and paint, you can use my rough drawing to draw over to show me.

looks like my setup, but instead of an extra pump, I just "t-eed" off my return line to the tank and put in a ball valve to control flow to the fuge..

Cool Bama. Do you have any pics of it?
I think I will also t my return line rather than have a 2nd pump.
