You could have a 2" drain and a 50 GPH return pump and the drain will only return 50 GPH this equals a proper return set up system (over kill but properly set up).

If you have a 1/4" drain and a 1000 GPH return pump this would equal an improper set up.

these are just examples but In any case your drain needs to be able to handle more flow than your return pump can put out.

    Stepho,

What size return line from the fuge to the displat tank are you going to have. You may be able to T off of your sump pump with some tubing and a valve and pinch the valve way back to get the flow your after.....just a thought.

I am thinking 1/2" ID hose for the return. I don't have a sump, but that would have been something to consider. I think I am going to try a Tom's aqualifter since I have one already for top offs and see how well it works.

    You win!

The aqua lifter will probably work fine. I have never used one so i cant speak to the reliability of them. Something to consider might be are they made to run all the time? I know an actual pump (danner, rio, quiet one, etc..) are made to run all the time. Hope it will all work out. Keep us updated.

I already use one for top offs and it seems to be pretty reliable. They advertise it for uses that would require the pump to be on at all times so I think it will hold up. I will have to use an inline filter to keep it from getting clogged up though.

No, the drain needs to meet or exceed the pump. I can put a .5gph pump on a 300gph drain, and it will work.

If this goes on any further, I'm busting out the diagrams. :p

The pump can't be too big for the drain and the drain can't be too small for the pump. Lmao, that pretty much summed it up.
