    There is no reason for the skimmer to be clear. It will make dialing it easier on you...but really is it going to matter if you save a whole bunch of cash? more money for corals, is what i think. but i will help you dial it in

    I think you could use PVC but make portholes with clear acrylic "windows." Sounds like it might be a lot of trouble but maybe it could give a best of both worlds kind of situation.
