ill try to explain this the best I can lol
planning a build for a typical 2x4 stand for a 60x24x12 rimless tank im currently building.
the stand is a normal 2x4 stand with 2 supports in each corner and I will be wrapping the stand with black melamine.

now the question is the sides of the tank will be melamine secured to the stand. the front doors will be 2 doors that are the full length of the stand but I need to attach hinges somewhere.
if I have the front 2x4 supports slightly away from the corner will that cause a issue?
I need to secure the hinges to the side pieces of melamine and with 2 2x4s directly in the corners it wont allow any space to secure them. so if I bump the corner support over a few inches it will leave room for the hinge.
I wouldn't think it would cause any issues but just seeing if anyone has done this. thanks.

hopefully I make sense, if not ill draw up a sketch of it

Are you using any middle supports? Also are you using the 2X4 like a window or door frame where you are laying it on its side or are you placing it so the thickness is only 1.5inch?

Either way I would want to have the 4 post directly under the corners for maximum support but thats just my opinion. ReefCentral has a stand build thread about this you can look into.

It will be built just like this one I did for my buddy a few weeks ago. (Only with cross supports on tip and bottom frame and also a rear center brace)
The top will have a ply top also.
In the pic if you move the front 2 upright supports over a Inch or 2 is what I'm considering doing.

I think what you are talking about will work fine. My only concern is that you ensure that the boards are waterproofed on all sides and that there is absolutely no way for water damage. Melamine swells up and turns to mush when wet.

I agree with Tattoolew. I would consider cabinet grade plywood. Birch plywood is less expensive than the others.

This is the look I'm going for, only black.

That looks awesome. As far as the doors go you can always use magnets.

I thought of that but then I thought of having to fully remove the door every time I wanted to check the sump so I went back to the hinge idea lol
