Google reverse dursos. My picture shows mine. Basically, the idea is to have a section of pipe rise straight above where it enters the sump. Cap it off and drill a small hole for air to escape. Keep the drain pipe full submerged.

The baffles would be easier to install in a glass tank sump. That's how most people build a diy sump.

OK, I'm pickin up what your throwin down now!

Insane: That's why I started this thread, I was going to buy one with the baffles and replace mine if it helped reduce the noise I'm talking about. Marshalls reverse durso should do the trick with little extra work involved.

My friend gave me a couple. They are called Water Lilly baskets and sold at Lowes and Home Depot for pretty cheap.

Would the Eshopps pre made cut down on evaporation compared to my DIY sump?

    No. to the above ?.

In my vid of my DIY sump (which still works awesome btw, and will with my soon to be DT 180),
I have the skimmer in it's own container, ~$4 plastic one, that has slots cut in one side, that keeps my skimmer level constant, then drains off to my huge chaeto area, which is actually in a large plastic strainer as well.
My DIY ATO is also in the RP/chaeto area.

Mines not quite like you have pictured.

My way is easy to find containers to 'fit' your needs, and very INexspensive- while working great.
