Tonight I was watching when my tank lights went out fully and my two perculas appeared to go into panic mode. They both began swimming frantically and appeared to darken up their black and split up into the two top corners of the tank behind my power heads. They stayed dark and moving quickly until one finally braved the top of the tank and rejoined the other clown. Once reunited they calmed down and lost the emphasized dark and are swimming calmly together with their clip ever since.
My tank has 24 less over it, half royal blue and half whites. I leave the blues on a bit longer Bc I like the lighting effect on my corals. The change from mix to blues didn't phase them tonight just the blues to full off. There's no other fish in the tank to stir them up really. Anyone shed some light on this or is this just juvenile fish being schizo?

my diamond goby would start to jump around 3-4 am when the tank was in pitch black darkness. i added a strip of blue leds, set to the lowest intensity and that was enough to calm it down.

I could probably rig something like that up. Maybe add two LEDs to the heat sink for a night light. Anyone have any advice on what color would look good for it?

The only thing that really happens in my tank is the lights go out and my firefish and barnacle blenny go into their homes and that's it. Do you dim your lights or just fully switch them off?

I had a pair of perc's that did that for the first few weeks they were in the new tank, but they calmed down after they got used to the new environment. Might just be the difference between tank bred and wild caught. I would think wild caught would be more skittish.

PS. you're gonna think this is wierd, but I sometimes play meditation music for my fish when they are new. Believe it or not, certain CD's did calm them down. I could even tell which ones they liked and which ones they didn't. My mandarins kicked ass, they LOVED def Leppard! LOL! (I know, that's not meditation music. I play it when I clean :)
