when my fish see the turkey baster they know it's party time, they definitely can associate objects with actions. The funny thing is that I got a new baster for feeding and when I put it in for the first time they scattered like girlscouts.

It is called classical conditioning and by giving them food you are giving positive reinforcement (that is why your tang learned to turn sideways curt)

google clasical conditioning and you will see many exapmles with animals and even people!

they absolutley do. my yellow tang went nuts when i held the seaweed clip on the outside of glass. it would chase it around everywhere. i think some fish are more intelligent than people like to think

I KNOW my fish recognize my green feeding cup. Whenever I have it out all of my fish come up to the top of the water column and wait.
