If they do grow too high, you can always frag it and make some money ;)

Corals won't grow much beyond the water's surface. In most tanks it would take quite a while to reach this point, though Corailline has a red planet acro that has grown about 1/4" above the water. ;) At this point growth should cease and effort will be put into growth for the rest of the colony (quite simply put). But of course photosynthesis will continue to occur for all of the coral to keep it's coloration and meet nutritional needs.

You could try birdsnest corals. They come in green, purpl, or pink polyps, or you can get a birds of paradise (still a birdsnest) which has green tissue and purple polyps. These are supposed to be generally easy to care for.

But some just do not do well in certain tanks (despite good care). I had some green birdsnest in my last tank, which didn't last more than a few months. I think I may have actually had too low of nutrients. I am going to try my hand at it again in my 10 gallon reef.

I'm going to try a Birdsnest and see how it does. Thanks, Seano :)
