Just wondering if it looks like I have too much live rock. I have been doing a 5 gallon water change every week for the last month and I swear I cannot seem to get my ammonia to go completely yellow :-/ Just wondering if anyone thinks maybe I have too much live rock. It's a 30 gallon tank and I believe when I weighed all the rock it was about 55lbs. Thanks.

You don't want to do water changes during the cycling stage. By the looks of your tank you are cycling? 55 pounds in a 30 isn't too much rock.

Unless you are cycling or have an insane amount of fish you shouldn't have problems with ammonia.

If there are no serious dead spots in the tank I would say you are totally fine (if there are just get some power heads). There are many "rule of thumbs" as to lbs. per gal. I think your ammonia issue resides somewhere other than your LR quantity or layout

is the top of the water in the tank moving...something causing like ripples on the top...either I am seeing bubbles/and or ripples or else you do not have any movement up there.

If you do not have the rippling effect in the top of your water, get a powerhead and point it upwards so that you do...

was your LR cured when you put it in?

I found out the hard way doing water changes during the cycling process just prolonged the cycle...so stop doing water changes for a while

Yea, looks to me like there isn't any movement.

Thanks for the replies, please disregard that picture I posted as I didn't realize that it is an older picture. The one below was just take 10min ago.

The tank is going on 4 months old now. I have a Fluval 305 Canister Filter, and Two Hydor Koralia Nano Powerheads on each end of the tank. Also about 50lbs of Cured Live Rock. Only thing in the tank are 6 turbo snails and 6 hermit crabs. That's it!

Perhaps this info might help shed a little better light on the subject. Thanks

I don't think there is such as thing as too much live rock. LR provides the biological filtration for your tank. The only way you could have too much is if it inhibited water movement to the point where powerheads become ineffective. You could double up on the amount of LR you have and still not have too much.
