do i need a new filter

    i have a 28 gallon tank with a carbon filter do i need another filter to start a salt water tank with fish only

    if you are doing a fish only tank with no rock, you will need a filter. what kind are you using now? if you are going to add in base rock or Live rock then once the tank is cycled and the Rock has a good algae, bacteria living on it, it will become the filter and you could just use the rock and water changes to support the tank.
