do i need a skimmer during the cycling process ?

    Your right to a point. There are quite a few T5 fixture that perform as good as the best MH and LEDs on the market. Case in point is the ATI fixtures. I have a TEK fixture that grown SPS down to the lower 1/3 of my 90 gal, and grows and colors well. It must be said though that the T5 fixture needs to be top notch to do this.

    You're absolutely right, I should have said that a high end t5 with good bulbs and individual reflectors would have no issues growing sps, my apologies I didn't mean to confuse

    I'm shopping for a 180gal myself and have seen a few for $600ish for tank, stand, and canopy. Depending on the quality t5 you are getting that may or may not be a great deal on the setup.
