    I have a 12 gallon nano tank and was told its good to go. Is this true or should I get something extra?

    I would look into a small nano skimmer, it will not hurt you.

    get a skimmer! Consistently check your water parameters and do small water changes weekly!

    You would not believe how much gunk a protien skimmer can pull out if your tank that your critters would otherwise have to live in- the ocean does it's own protien skimming with wave action at the shoreline and nature is still the best teacher.
