I can never find the right area where RO/DI questions go, but I was looking at the BRS site and I see they have a TDS meter that I could install inline do I really need it since my system is brand new?

If you have a RO or RO/DI then you need a TDS meter. Its the only way to know if its working or not.
Handheld meters have several advantages over inlines. With an inline you are dedicated to only two TDS readings, usually RO only and final or RO/DI. With a handheld you can test your tap water which is necessary to calculate your membrane efficiency or rejection rate. You can also check you stored water, ATO vessel, the LFS water, your buddies water etc. Handhelds are also more accurate since decent ones are truly temperature compensated while inlines sense air temperature not water temperature which is rarely the same and can throw the readings off significantly.

I suggest the HM Digital TDS-3 or TDS-4TM both of which are temp compensated and have digital thermometers built in too. If you want even more accuracy and functionality the COM-100 is top of the line and the meter I use myself.
