do you have an RO unit? If so, I'd use the water... why not? It would be healthy for your fish in the long run...

Are you planning on having ANY inverts or LR? If so, then I'd say definitely use RO water.

Either way, RO water will ensure that you will not have a build up of any unwanted substances coming FROM the water.

Also, I would think your salt water would mix better if RO water is used.

I used to use tap for my FO and had algae problems. Once I switched to RO/DI water, the algae is gone!

Fish don't deserve and lower quality than corals, in fact I wouls say fish are a higher life form and deserve better than corals.

Use it unless you want to risk having a hair algae farm.

    Thats rare.
The biggest problem with any tap wate ris inconsistency, it can and does change constantly. A new operator comes on shift and chemical additions change. A storm rolls through and turbidity and other things go up. They switch to chloramines and now you have ammonia problems and may not know it. They add a new source or blend and quality changes.

The point is you have absolutely no control of its quality and that quality changes at all times. I am a treatment plant supervisor by profession and wil not use it myself. I won't hesitate to drink tap water most anywhere but I leared my lessons years ago on reef and saltwater systems with algae and other water problems. You get too much invested to chance it.
