I used to rinse mine out in the old saltwater after doing water changes on my 12 gallon, just to remove detritus. If there is build up and they are not changed when the time comes it will become a nitrate factory.

I have heard with purigen that once it is used you can renew it by soaking it in bleach and it will make it like new again. Don't take my word on it though.... do some research to see if its true or not.

That is true. But its good to have another one for backup while you are regenerating the old bag. They are only good for 4 - 6 months but it takes a few days to regenerate and soak in RO/DI water before you can use it again.

yes, Purigen is Renewable and can be re-used many many times. I used and regnerated it regularly on my old tank. Loved the stuff. cannot find my bag of it for the new tank.

Chemi pure is not re-useable. once exhausted, it is to be replaced.

The bags should be rinsed off to prevent nitrate creation.
