I was thinkin I would need to atleast turn the surface a bit to get some circulation, I dont know. They dwarf ceriths are tiny and I havent seen them bury so deep in my DT that I would think they will disturb the dsb.

From my understanding (which im no expert) is that on a DSB you dont want nothing stirring the sand not even the top layer and it should be around 4-6 inches (if i remember correctly). But see what some others have to say. As far as covering the kitty liter with sand i dont see the need to as long as theres very low flow.

IME I wouldnt. If something distrubs the top layer of sand and gets to the litter then your gonna have a muddy tank.

Yeah, your fuge is just gonna end up swampy anyways. Throw in some macros and don't touch anything!! I believe the ideal flow for a fuge would be 1/10th of the display tanks per hour.

As for the kitty litter. Yes, I'd put a layer of sand on top.

    LOL

If you've ever worked for a small or large company -- the rule is 'if it is legal (if the government approves) then it is ok.' Uhhh, and, uhhh, kitty litter is certainly not even a food grade product. If that's good enough for you then, ok.

    Good point trent.

Again, I ask DaDaAtlanta (sans the bumps), what prompted you to be interested in using kitty litter, of all possible materials??

Random searches including some threads on 3reef when I was researching mud.

Anyhow I gave in and bought some aragonite sand and and downsized my fuge by about 5 gallons but now it fits under the tank hidden from view. Dumped the cat litter, only lost 3 bucks so its all good, cat couldnt use it cause it was soaked from trying to rinse it.

    Awesome!

At least if something goes wrong you won't be worrying that it was because of some trace amount of an ingredient in a material that's specifically designed to capture kitty dump!

You made a good decison! You're going to be spending many many dollars on this hobby. Three dollars ain't squat (pun is intended). :)
