Do I need to dose top up water?

do i need to dose top up water? for alk, ca, and for ph? right now i am just adding str8 water.

 

you are topping off water for evaporation and the only thing that evaporates is water. So you only really need to add fresh water for top off. If your tank is using more CA or other stuff than you are adding in otherwise, it doesn't hurt to add in stuff to top off water. You have to be careful about what you mix though, and it's very hard to control how much you are adding. So there are better ways to get the other stuff in.

The typical addin for topoff is kalk though. There's a lot of good reasons that people top off with kalk. I'd recommend doing a little research into it before you decide. A lot of whether you use it depends on your specific tank situation.

 

I always top off with straight RO/DI and then dose seperately only if test kits indicate its needed. Its usually taken care of with water changes and new salt water though in my smaller systems and my calcium reactor in my larger ones.
