cycles go in spirts there are down swings and up swings. I would make sure tests stay at 0 for a few weeks to make sure you are not seeing a down swing.

Your parameters are 0 because your cycle hasn't kicked in. Well, it has, just not enough. Test again in 2 weeks and you should see some different results. Test every few days from there and you will see your levels go up and back down and finally after 5 or 6 weeks you will be ready to go.

While it would be ok to cycle with a fish, a clown is not that fish. Let alone a pair. If you absolutely have to have something in your tank then yes, get a damsel. I recommend green chromis damsels because in my experience all damsels are just evil little fish that get mean and attack your other fish down the road. Chromis damsels being the exception. Some people here have not had that experience, but others have.

Either way, hold off on that pair of clowns.

Thanks brandon im deff going to wait on the clowns. I'll just add more rock in the next couple days wether is live or base. and ill test the waters for the next 4-5 weeks. I deff dont want damsel fish, i agree with you they are evil.

Karma to you for that decision. I know it's hard to wait. But in this hobby, all good things take time.

When my tank was new I added refrigerated Bio Spira along with a Blenny after my LR was in for a few weeks and it skipped over the ammonia, nitrite and went to right to nitrate for the next 6-12 months till that was also 0. I also bought all LR because the LFS I went to at that time never told me to get some base rock along with the LR to save money and I was new and did not know any better.

i know but from what i have seen the yellow tail damsels and the blue damsels can be quite a ***** compaired to the clown fish that i have seen in tanks.
