Do i need to maintain live rock

    I have about 25 pounds of curred live rock. Do i need to maintain it as far as adding supplements do it diet such as iodine and calcium or thats more for live coral? Sorry im a noob at this stuff

    Live rock is really just the organisms living in the rock, they will eat waste, diatoms, detritus etc. that being said, coralline algae (the purple/pink stuff growing on your live rock) will use calcium but i dont think enough that you should have to supplement. Keep up with water changes and the salt you use should provide enough for your tank. That being said, when and if you decide to add corals, you may need to add some supplements such as calcium and iodine.

    No, lr does not itself need supplements. Coraline will grow when the conditions are right, proper Ca, Alk, mg etc. Also, don't dose anything you don't test for, particularly iodine. If you dose too much of that, if will kill bacteria and corals in your tank.
