I have two 35 gallons trash cans I mix fresh saltwater in one the day before and then the next day I siphon my DT into the second can to eaqual level of the fresh saltwater so my ? is do i put the small amount of sand at the bottom of the can back in the DT after draining the dirty water and if so should I rinse it and with what.

if you don't do something you're going to end up without sand eventually, I'd recommend sterilizing it (20 water:1 bleach, overnight soak, rinse VERY VERY WELL), then bake it up past boiling to dry the rest out.

I get the sugar fine sand in my outgoing WC water, I figure I loose maybe a half ounce per change... eventually I will get a bag of dry sand, clean it, and add it back... reclaiming the siphoned out sand would be far too much trouble.

Put it back, no need to do anything with it.
