sell your fish, dry your rock + sand, and put the tanks and equipment in storage.

If you don't know what to do, you can just give them to me:) just kidding
I guess its up to you and how much maintance they require, can your parents devote the time to take proper care? Are you moving do to business or military?

I'm with bogie on this one. Sounds like solid advice to me. That way you will still have everything you need to put the tank back together when you want and you don't have to worry about your live stock dying.

I couldn't agree more. You will have a pretty easy start up when you get back into the hobby.

Unless your parents know how to maintain the tank then chances are it isn't going to go well for them or the fish. Let's face it, it takes a lot of time, knowledge and devotion to successfully keep a salt water tank. I know if I asked my parents to look after my tank they would not have a clue.

Where are you now and where are you moving to? may be worth a road trip with a truck full of aquarium equipment. Do you plan on eventually going bigger? If so then sell the tank and what ever else you wouldn't be able use in your next tank. A year is a long time for a tank to just sit without water. Tanks arn't really the expensive part, its all the lights and extra's that get you. So I say sell the tank/stand and save the rest. When you get back, check out craigs list and buy a bigger tank. You will allready have most the extra's you need.

cross country doesn't sound too fun for a truck full of fishies!! I agree with everyone else...maybe you could set up a smaller tank wherever you go. Wait, don't you have a RSM?

I wasn't talking about takeing the fish cross country, just the equipment. I would sell the fish. But cross country trips are fun. It took me 3 days to drive from Tennesse to Cali and I had a blast. Stopped in a different city every night and partied. I am just saying it may be something to consider.

ya i have a RSM and a BC 29. i dont really mind breaking down the RSM as it hasnt been running long, but my BC is be set up for 2 years and is loaded with stuff. all the corals in there are low maintenance corals. i think the only thing my parents would have to do is the WC's and dont over feed. they live like 5 mins away so the move could be done rather quickly. when i get back i am most likey going to upgrade in size, maybe to an RSM 250 or a nice bow front.
