i was just going to start a post about urchins.
my local reef shop is selling pencil urchins for algae control, which i thought would be cool.
then i researched, and found this article by shimek:

    Sea Urchins, A Testy Subject by Ronald L. Shimek, Ph.D. - Reefkeeping.com

it looks like there's not really ANY urchin that would be good in a tank with coral.
anyone have an urchin in a diverse reef tank without it causing problems?

YES! I do, I have a long spine black urchin (not exactly the scientific name!) and I have had no problems other than the need to glue things down. Oh yeah, and I had a comicosi (sp?) yellow tang that swam into the urchin and was dead five minutes later???:-/ I have had the urchin for 7 years and seems to be going strong. I will warn you, it hurts when you get poked!

Here he is behind the candy canes eating coraline algae!(see picture)
