I would like on that I do not have to plumb in. I would like for it to sit in my sump and would have to be fairly small...no more then 12".

Are they worth having? It is a 65g tank.

The submersible ones wouldn't be strong enough for a 65 gallon. However, it should be easy to mount one in your stand. Then the only thing that would go in the sump would be a powerhead and a return line.

thats how mine is set up. the unit it self is so long it spans the width of the sump plus some. so i just lay it over it and just the pump is in the sump.

personally i think the in-sump models would create more heat, then an out of sump model, with an extra pump, and the light bulb and the short distance it would have to travel, rather then having time to cool in the tubing i would say the out sump model would be a tad better for heat wise, correct me if im wrong anyone?
