My fuge gets fed every time I put food in the DT. Some food eventually makes it down to the fuge. I never intentionally add additional food to an area that is supposed to be breaking down whats in the DT.

I use a filter sock and also I turn off main pump when I feed my DT, so there is little to no food that makes it way to my fuge. Once a week I will add a few brine shrimp pellets to the fuge for the mysis shrimp as I have more of them than anything else in there.

Every once in a while I feed, but only because I like to watch the little suckers eat. Given that I have a nice population and only ever do that maybe once a month, I'd say they do fine without it. Note that I have no sock on the system.

I add food to mine because I have a yellow watchman goby and pistol shrimp living down there, I don't feed them very often because they normally just munch on pods.
