I have a maxi jet pointed towards the surface that stays on all night, but my main powerhead, a tunze, has a sensor that has a night mode that turns it down to the lowest flow as soon as the lights go off.

I have mine on @ night, I've been contemplating putting them on a timer for the longest. Hmmm. Perhaps I will.

I have a PH come on at night in the sump to stir up any matter that has acclimated. That way the corals get some food at night.

i don't know if any of this is good info but here's my feelings on this:
-the ocean doesn't slow down at night
-if you have enough rock work, your fish will find a place to chill at night
-O2 drops at night, you need all the surface agitation you can get
-corals that open up at night need the flow to capture prey

i leave all of my PHs on 24hr.

By "will mess with fish sleep" I mean I don't get nearly as good of sweeper extension from my corals w/ the koralia 4 on; it was the closest one. I do leave the skimmer and gfo/gfc reactor on tho.

+13 for leaving on 24/7 for me

Im up and over 60 x tank volume now in water movement
majority is between 2 x Wave maker power heads doing 12000 and 6000 lph respectively

the only time they get turned off is for the 15 mins or so each week it takes to do water change as they are placed where they would run dry as the water level drops
