I must admit, I never heard of such a thing as turning off power heads at night. Why? I see no benefit at all.

I turn mine off for feedings, but otherwise on 24/7. My clowns have found a couple of places in my rockwork with little to no flow that they huddle together in at night. It's pretty cool.
Great idea on the powerhead in the sump BTW, otty. I have a spare one laying around I could put there for just this reason.

    JUST to be sarcastic,

if anything we should turn our powerheads off during the day,as we spend far too many hours at work, also electrics cheaper at night!!!(not sure whether the neighbours will appreciate the halides beaming away at 2am though,lol;D;D;D8)8)8)

    OFF Topic Sorry,

My Electric Bill was $450.00 this month!
I guess the Hot tub and a 300G fish tank is getting ridiculous..

According to my gf we have a tanning bed in our apartment.

I leave mine on 24/7. Like someone previously stated, current in the ocean doesn't just stop because it is nighttime.

Actually, the ocean does calm down a bit at night, but it still is moving.

Some powerheads with controllers have a night mode that turns down the output a little at night.

Turning off all flow at night would definitely be something that you would not want to do.
