Do you normally sell what you have in your tank when upgrading?

I want to put my new tank in the spot that my old one is in, so would it be smarter to sell everything that is in my tank now LR and everything or just try to transfer it into rubbermade tubs then the new tank? Just curious what everyone else did? ;D

your stuff should be fine in a rubbermade or whatever for a few days while you set your new tank up.
i switched mine from a 55 to a 90 a few years ago and it took me about 9 hours. everything made it.
i bet if you sell everything you have now you will realize it takes alot more money to get it all then your ever going to get back by selling it. my vote=keep everything.

A more important question is how much do you like what you have? That's the determining factor. If you like it, it's worth the effort. If you don't like it or don't care, get new stuff when the cycle completes.

When I upgraded, I sold my old tank and equipment. Nothing else.

Because I was planing to do work on the new set up for a while, I moved my old set up to a different location and ran it there for a few weeks while I worked on the new set up. To move it, I used several buckets. It got very clean in the process but it didn't seem to hurt it. The move to the new tank was easy. It was a lot bigger though, so I pulled water from the old tank and replaced it over a 1 week period to make sure the fish weren't dropped into a tank off mostly new water.

If it's that big an upgrade how much live rock or base rock will you be adding. I'm only assuming but If you had 75 lbs now and were to add like 150 lbs I would expect to see some kind of cycle.

As for keeping live rock. I kept mine in garbage cans w wheels. Just add a heater and a few powerheads. Or something to help add oxygen. This method should give a 3 or 4 days. Any longer and you may start to see some die off.
