Rod's food is great. I never strain. As soon as the "juice" hits the water my LPS corals extend their polyps and start feeding.

Since I started straining, my diatom algae problem has disappeared. Probably depends heavily on what is contained in the "juice" you are using. The stuff I get from my one and only LFS was causing issues.

For straining my wife gave me a tea strainer like this one:

Amazon.com: Norpro Grip-EZ Tea Infuser With Cup: Kitchen & Dining

    Works a charm.

OK, so for target feeding, you'd strain/rinse then put it all back in tank water?:-/

I use mysis mainly and strain it well after it is thawed. if I have to much for 1 feeding I add tank water to the cup and put it in the fridge for next feeding.

I don't strain Rod's food, but strain all frozen cubes. I just put them in a cup with a little tank water or RO water, then run though a strainer and dump them in with the Rod's food. I usually make up enough to last a few days and store in the refrigerator.

I thaw Rods or cubes in a shot glass with tank water. After it thaws, all the food sinks to the bottom. I wad up a paper towel and suck up the water off the top. Usually not much food sticks to the paper towel. The wetter the end of the towel the less sticks. I have found it has greatly helped in my Hair Algae battle.

From what I hear and see, Rod's is one of the few, if maybe the only commercially available food that does not add these ingredients that do nothing.

I guess that is one way to feed less. I personally would simply just use less of the food to begin with.
