looks simaler but is less deep in the body..more red than maroon in colour and the stripes are more white with a touch of yellow.. but it may just be a young one, will have to wait to see if the spine develops

Maroon clown. It is definitely a yellow stripe maroon clown. Mine looks just like you describe it. Look closely under the eyes you'll see it. It's a slightly darker spot under his eyes it developes like a protruding cheek bone. This is one of the reasons it has a different species name than all the other clowns Premnas. The other reason is its aggressiveness and it's lack on compatibility with other clowns.

    Thats the down side.

the upside is that you have a very strong fish. And that if given time will try to host anything. Mine started hosting his rose BTA, literally before it even touched the rock. Prior to that it attempted to host all of my mushrooms and my xenia. It was a great site. ;D

Maroon clowns, white and yellow striped are the same genus and species. The yellow coloration is a variation within the species. My maroon had complete white markings when I got it, about 3/4" in length. As it has grown there is a hint of yellow, it is about 3" long now.

Thats a big problem for us wholesalers and retailers alike. Its mainly a problem with aquacultured clowns from what I've seen of wilds. The wilds seem to get their stripes (gold) earlier the CB. We'll get shipped 50 CB gold stripe maroons along with 50 normal CB maroons. If the bag isn't marked, they have to be sold as normal white stripes at our loss as you have no way of telling. To counter that problem, most wholesalers don't carry CB gold stripe maroons.
